Shoe Care Guide

CALFSKIN

  • For particularly tough stains or to remove excess polish, use Saphir Renomat or any saddle soap.
  • Clean the surface with a damp wash cloth, allow to dry.
  • Brush off any excess dirt and debris using a horsehair brush.
  • To clean and condition calfskin, we recommend massaging a small amount of Saphir Renovateur cream into the leather uppers of your shoes.
  • Use Saphir Cream 1925 to condition and add color to your shoes.
  • To seal the leather, use a small amount of Alden Fine Boot Cream and brush to polish with a horsehair brush.
  • To help guard against water and stains, spray Alden Leather Defender on a clean cloth and apply to your shoes. Alternatively, you can also use Saphir Super Invulner Spray directly onto the leather.

SUEDE & NUBUCK

  • To ensure adequate hydration and weather protection, spray new suede and nubuck shoes with Saphir Renovateur Suede & Nubuck Spray before the first wear. Two light and even coats of spray is recommended over one heavily saturated spraying. This will help prevent the suede or nubuck from darkening due to over-spray. Keep in mind, an initial spray application before wear may prevent the leather from developing a patina.
  • Use a suede/nubuck brush to clean surface dirt and debris.
  • For light stains, use a suede/nubuck eraser.
  • For heavy staining or to rejuvenate the uppers of your suede or nubuck shoes, a deep cleaning treatment of Saphir Omnidaim is recommended. If used, then apply Saphir Renovator Suede & Nubuck Spray.
  • Brushing the nap regularly with a suede brush is recommended.

HORWEEN CHAMOIS LEATHER

  • Wipe off any excess dirt or debris from the surface of your shoes using a damp cloth and wire brush. Allow leather to dry.
  • Use a small amount of Saphir Oiled Leather Cream or Saphir's Dubbin Conditioner to nourish and restore chamois leather’s water-resilient properties.
  • Brush the nap with a wire brush regularly to smooth the nap and remove surface dirt.

HORWEEN CHROMEXCEL LEATHER

  • Wipe off any excess dirt or debris from the surface of your shoes using a damp cloth. Allow leather to dry and brush with a horsehair brush.
  • Use a small amount of Saphir Oiled Leather Cream to nourish and restore Chromexcel’s water-resilient properties. Use Saphir Dubbin Conditioner for more extreme cases of dry leather. Allow to dry and then brush with a horsehair brush to polish and spread the conditioner evenly.

ALDEN KUDU LEATHER

  • Wipe off any excess dirt or debris from the surface of your shoes using a damp cloth. Allow leather to dry. Brush with a horsehair brush.
  • Use a small amount of Saphir Oiled Leather Cream and/or Saphir Dubbin Conditioner to nourish and restore Alden Kudu’s water-resilient properties. Allow to dry and then brush with a horsehair brush.

SHELL CORDOVAN

  • Shell Cordovan requires more maintenance than other leathers and regular brushing with a horsehair brush is recommended after wear.
  • Wipe off any excess dirt or debris from the surface of your shoes using a damp cloth. Allow leather to dry. Brush off any remaining dirt with a horsehair brush.
  • To clean and condition Shell Cordovan, we recommend massaging a small amount of Saphir Renovateur cream into the leather uppers of your shoes. Allow to ample time to dry and then buff with a horsehair brush.
  • If necessary, use a Deer Bone to smooth out the set in creases.
  • Use Saphir Cordovan Cream in a matching color to condition and add color to your shoes. Use Neutral if you do not wish to add any color tint. Allow ample time to dry and then buff with a horsehair brush. Polish with an Alden Polishing cloth after brushing.
  • You may use a small amount of Saphir Mirror Gloss on the Toe and Heel to optimally add a mirror shine.
