The Alden 2211 Norwegian Front Toe Derby Shoe Blucher is made from Horween’s Black Shell Cordovan leather, crafted upon the Aberdeen Last. The Aberdeen Last will give you a timeless, slim and elegant silhouette with formal function and charm.

Alden’s Norwegian Front Toe stitch is a decorative finish which pays homage to the water resistant work boots of over 100 years ago. The hand-butted seam is distinctive and intricate, so much so that the process for constructing the uppers and placing on the Last is so difficult that there are only 2 or 3 highly trained hand-sewers at Alden’s factory tasked with this responsibility. The front of the shoe is actually a single piece of hide, not multiple pieces that are stitched as you would see on a split toe. The craftsmen use a tool to pinch the leather and then 2 needles to pierce the seam on opposite sides, hand-sewing what you see.

Shell Cordovan is made from the connective tissue from a portion of a horse’s rump. It’s rare, low yield and known for its dense, tight grain and durability. While naturally matte, Shell can achieve a notable glossy finish. This leather is highly regarded for being able to maintain its luster and shape over time. 

Alden footwear is crafted using Goodyear Welt construction, which allows for a full restoration when necessary and a water resistant build. A tempered steel shank under the arch and a cork fill provides remarkable support and comfort throughout the day.
