    The “Commuter” Plain Toe Derby is made exclusively for Brick + Mortar in Horween’s “Kudu” Leather. Not to be confused with the Kudu animal, a type of African antelope whose hide is also used to produce leather goods, Alden Kudu leather refers to a type of Horween Chromexcel, typically made from steer hides. It shares same traits of water-resiliency, durability, and ease of maintainability as the traditional variety of Chomexcel, but comes in a matte finish. Packed with waxes and oils, this leather is easy to maintain and will develop a rich patina with wear. Crafted on the popular Barrie last with a commando lug sole, 360 pre-stitched reverse antique welt and four blind eyelets.

    Alden footwear is crafted using Goodyear Welt construction, which allows for a full restoration when necessary and a water resistant build. A tempered steel shank under the arch and a cork fill provides remarkable support and comfort throughout the day.

    Shoe Size Guide

    Size down ½ Size (US 9.5D = Alden 9D)

    The Barrie last runs a 1/2 size larger than your standard US shoe size. The hallmarks of the Barrie last is its voluminous shape (high toe box, wide heel cup) and its ability to fit many different foot shapes comfortably. For this reason, it’s Alden’s most popular last. If you have slimmer feet or a low volume instep, sizing down a full size in the Barrie Last is common.

    We accept exchanges for a different size or store credit on any unworn, full-price footwear or leather accessories within 14 days of receipt. Please note:

    • All “Last Call,” sale items, and “add to run” catalog orders are final sale with no exceptions.
    • All items must be returned in brand-new condition with no signs of wear or try-on.
