The Barrie last runs a 1/2 size larger than your standard US shoe size. The hallmarks of the Barrie last is its voluminous shape (high toe box, wide heel cup) and its ability to fit many different foot shapes comfortably. For this reason, it’s Alden’s most popular last. If you have slimmer feet or a low volume instep, sizing down a full size in the Barrie Last is common.

The Trubalance last runs a 1/2 size larger than your standard US shoe size. The toe box is slightly wider than the Barrie last, but shallower. The heel cup is also narrower than Barrie’s, so while the Trubalace is wider-looking than Barrie, the fit is very secure.If you have narrow feet, sizing down a full size in the Trubalance last is common.

Size down ½ Size.

The 379X last (also known as the military last) is characterized by its rounded shape and pronounced arch support, though not as extreme as the Modified last. It’s a great choice for those with higher arches, but is still comfortable for wearers with normal arches. For those with flat feet, the 379X Last may offer a bit more support than is comfortable (in which case, the Trubalance last would be a better choice). We generally recommend sizing down a 1/2 size from your standard US shoe size.

The Van last runs a 1/2 size larger than your standard US shoe size, similar to how the Barrie last is sized. The Van last is known for its low volume toe box and higher-cut vamp making it an ideal last for penny loafers.

The Grant last is a slightly generous last that runs about a 1/4 size larger than your standard US shoe size. It has a rounded toe box that tapers slightly. While the Grant runs slightly big, most treat it as a true-to-size last.

The Plaza last is considered Alden’s dress last. It is characterized by its sophisticated, chiseled, and slightly elongated toe box. While the Plaza is considered a true-to-size last, if you have narrow feet, sizing down a 1/2 size is common.
